PURPOSE – WHAT DOES THE ESA1000compact DO?
In the gravure printing process, as with our processes, there is an ongoing need to improve and refine the qualtity of print achieved |
|
|
| |
Electrostatic Printing Assist (ESA) is designed to optimise the transfer of ink from the gravure cylinder to the printing substrate by creating an electric field in the area of the nip to assist the capillary action of the gravure process. The result is the elimination or reduction of „dot skip“ or „missing dots“ and the ability to produce quality of a consistently high standard over long running periods without the need to make changes to machine settings (viscosity, impression roller, cleaning the gravure cylinder cells, etc.) |

Advantages of using ENULEC ESA in the rotogravure printing process – WHAT DOES THE ESA1000compact offer?
The Advantages:
- Optimum Ink transfer to all paper and plastic film substrates.
- Longer running times for impression rollers due to reduced impression roller line pressure of 50%.
- Optimum print results on low quality papers, card board and plastic films / Cost reduction.
- Faster production speed and best print results up to 900m/m.
- No cleaning of the gravure cylinder cells any more during production. Dried ink cells are a thing of the past.
- The gravure cylinder depth can be reduced up to 40% and reduce the consumption of ink.
- Constant and controlled print quality guaranteed.

It works by creating a controlled voltage in the order of 300-1000V in the printing nip from the output voltage of 15kV coming from the power supply. This voltage in the area of the nip creates a force field which acts on the ink contained in the cells of the gravure printing cylinder and causes the ink to seek to evacuate itself from the cells so assisting the capillary action of the gravure printing process.
The electrostatic assist process is particularly beneficial in ensuring the efficient transfer of the ink when printing with fine tonal effects and vignettes and when printing on materials of poor or rough surface quality. It is suitable for use with water based and solvent based non-metallic inks |

|
In addition to bringing quality improvements to the gravure printing process, ENULEC Electrostatic Printing Assist Systems Type ESA1000compact ensure consistency of high print quality over long print production runs with minimum operator engagement, enable machines to be operated at optimum low machine pressure settings and have advantages to offer in terms of the life of both impression rollers and gravure cylinders. Included in the systems are two discharge or static elimination bars, one positioned prior to and the other immediately after the printing nip.
The purpose of these bars is to provide the incoming web with a constant surface characteristic prior to the printing process and to remove from the web any static charge introduced by the static assist process as well as removing any other static from the web, howsoever caused, in the region of the elimination bars. |
